Nestled between history and legend lies the magnificent Mt Viso, also known as the "stone king", standing tall at 3841 meters. This captivating mountain has enchanted travelers throughout the ages. Located in the Marquisate, an Occitan territory, it is surrounded by the Po valley, the birthplace of Italy's longest river.

The landscape is adorned with castles, abbeys, and monasteries, while ancient mule tracks and dirt roads tell tales of monks, merchants, knights, and brigands who once traversed these lands. The fabled "road of salt," a vital passage to France, was frequented not only by men, but also by salt, anchovies, oil, spices, textiles, and other goods.

Here, the remarkable "Mt Viso hole" was carved out, a meandering tunnel stretching 75 meters beneath the Traversette col at an elevation of 2882 meters, allowing loaded mules and stooped men to pass through.

Merchants from Dauphiné, Provence, and Burgundy roamed from farm to farm, crossing the Alps, descending the hills, and arriving in the plains. Many travelers sought respite in the ancient inn, where Virginia greeted them with a warm smile, a hearty meal, and the comforting glow of a fireplace.

Today, following extensive restoration, the "Virginia" inn reopens its doors. Step inside to discover the rustic and inviting ambiance of bygone eras, with stone, wood, terracotta, and antique furnishings. The rooms exude a cozy charm, adorned with warm colors reminiscent of rural homes. Each of the seven rooms is furnished with wooden and wrought-iron beds, wardrobes, and desks, embracing the spirit of folk culture. The curtains evoke the elegance of Occitan boiserie found in ancient mansions.

The inn offers spacious communal areas dedicated to the comfort of guests, including a sitting room, a breakfast and dining room, and a library with a crackling fireplace where one can unwind. Descend to the cellar, and indulge in the flavors of the Occitan region with wine tastings and sampling of local delicacies.

This enchanting and captivating place invites you to rediscover the essence of forgotten traditions and cultures, allowing you to reconnect with yourself. The inn provides six double rooms and one triple room, all equipped with en-suite facilities.
