Description:

Description for B&B:

Until 1872, the location of this house was occupied by the gardens of the St Laurent convent, a Benedictine convent for women. Today, it is known as the Apartments Residences of the Abbey. The house is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the Bourges Cathedral.

During the revolution, the grounds were sold, and Mr. Alphonse-Joseph Charmeil, an art teacher at the Royal Middle School of Bourges and the founder of the Museum of Bourges, acquired the land. He then proceeded to build this unique Napoleon III-style house. In 1878, he added a pavilion and two detached houses to the garden, adorned with marble decorations.

Originally, the marble decorations were part of the choir tour of the St Pierre Le Marché church, built in 1760, which is now known as the Notre-Dame church. These original decorations have been well-preserved and are registered as historical artifacts.
