Description for B&B:
Located between the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, and the Black Mountain in the heart of Cathar country, Montolieu Book Village is the ideal destination for those seeking a culturally enriching and leisurely getaway. Nestled in the countryside, at the end of a road by the river in a picturesque valley, you will find The Forge of Montolieu. This historic mansion, formerly an old forge and mill, was converted in the late nineteenth century and now sits amidst a beautiful park filled with ancient waterways and secret paths, surrounded by a diverse and stunning array of vegetation.Hosted by Charles and Laura Cowen, The Forge of Montolieu offers four spacious bedrooms, each with its own unique connection to the house's industrial history and "golden age". Two of the rooms, the goddess and Madame Gazelle, boast expansive views of the river to the east, while the other two, ginko biloba and Ourika's room, offer captivating vistas of cascading waterfalls and lush landscapes. The north-facing Mr. Wolf's bedroom provides a majestic outlook onto nature, with the oldest Douglas fir tree in Europe standing proudly in the foreground. These first-floor rooms are conveniently served by two large and well-appointed bathrooms, which echo the soothing sounds of the nearby river.
Guests of The Forge of Montolieu will have access to their own private retreat within the house. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be enjoyed at the large kitchen table, adorned with exquisite wrought iron details, or outside in the serene surroundings, weather permitting. For more information and bookings, please get in touch with Charles and Laura Cowen at La Forge, located in Hameau de France, Montolieu, 11170.
