The Buttonwood Inn on Mt. Surprise, located in North Conway, New Hampshire, is a highly acclaimed country inn bed and breakfast. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service, hospitality, and attention to detail.Nestled on over five acres of serene fields and forests, just two miles from North Conway village, The Buttonwood Inn on Mt. Surprise offers a tranquil, rural environment while still being conveniently close to everything.
Housed in a charming 1820s farmhouse, our inn maintains its cozy country ambiance with beautiful wide pine floors, antique furnishings, lovely quilts, and tasteful stenciling.
As a proud member of the Select Registry since 1999, The Buttonwood Inn is honored to be one of the distinguished recipients of the Americas Favorite Inns Award. We have also been featured in the "White Mountain Wonderland" article in Classic American Homes.
Bill, our friendly innkeeper, is always available to assist you in planning your day, providing insights about the area, and sharing local tips for navigating your way around.

Keep an eye out for the stunning wildlife that often graces our grounds, such as deer, wild turkeys, moose, hawks, and hummingbirds. Indulge in afternoon tea and delicious homemade treats in front of our traditional wood-burning fireplaces, found in our spacious living room or the inviting Mt. Surprise Room. On cooler days, you can choose to bask in the sun or seek shade in our comfortable Adirondack chairs. Alternatively, take a refreshing dip in our heated pool or relax in our open-air hot tub, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests during the day and a mesmerizing starry sky at night. We are more than happy to assist you in making dining reservations at one of the many outstanding restaurants in the area, where you can savor a variety of local or international cuisine in a casual or upscale setting.

Directions from North Conway Village:
- At the traffic light on Rt. 16, turn east onto Kearsarge Street.
- Continue for 1.5 miles until you reach a stop sign.
- Go straight across the intersection onto Mt. Surprise Road.
- Keep left on Mt. Surprise Road until you reach the Inn.
Directions from Boston:
- Take I-95 North to Portsmouth, NH.
- Continue on the Spaulding Tpk. North until it ends.
- Take Rt. 16 to North Conway, or take Rt. 93N to Exit 23 (Rt. 104E), then Rt. 25E to Rt. 16N to North Conway.
If bypassing the Shopping District:
- Follow the above directions from North Conway Village.
- Alternatively, you can take the new North-South Road that connects Kearsarge Street with Route 302.

- Continue on I-90 (MA Tpk.) East to Rt. 290 North (Exit 10).

- Travel on Route 302 West to North Conway.

- Take the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) for approximately 24 miles.
- Turn left onto Bear Notch Road.
- Follow Bear Notch Rd. to the blinking light in Bartlett.

- Take the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) to the end in Conway at the intersection of Rt. 16.

- When traveling on Rt. 16 from the South, at the first set of traffic lights in Conway, take a left onto Washington St.
- After 1/2 mile, bear left at the fork onto West Side Rd.
- Continue until it ends at a stop sign, then turn right onto River Road.
- When you reach the stop lights, continue straight through.
- At the stop sign in front of John Fuller school, turn right.
- At the next stop sign, turn left onto Mechanic Street.
- At the following stop sign, turn left onto Kearsarge Street.
- Now follow the directions above from North Conway Village.
By Air:
- Portland, ME is approximately 1.5 hours away.
